Philip Conisbee (1946–2008)

Philip Conisbee served as senior curator, French paintings, at the National Gallery of Art from 1993 to 2008.

During his career, he published frequently on topics and artists of 17th- to 19th-century French art. He also organized a number of exhibitions, including The Age of Watteau, Chardin, and Fragonard: Masterpieces of French Genre Painting (2003–2004) and Portraits by Ingres: Image of an Epoch (1999).
