Robert Wilson Torchia is an independent art historian based in the Philadelphia area. He was the principal author of a previous systematic catalog volume published by the National Gallery of Art in 1998: American Paintings of the Nineteenth Century, Part II. Torchia has published widely on American art of the 19th and early 20th centuries.
