This catalog accompanied an exhibition celebrating Ian Woodner’s extraordinary collection of European master drawings and the exceptionally generous gifts that Ian and his daughters, Dian and Andrea, made to the National Gallery of Art. Included in the book is a biography recounting Ian Woodner’s life and collecting history, as well as a catalog of 112 works from Woodner’s collection with entries written by 52 scholars from Europe and North America. Acquired between the 1950s and the 1980s, the collection features works from the 14th through the 20th century by artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Edgar Degas, Albrecht Dürer, Anthony van Dyck, Francisco de Goya, Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres, Filippino Lippi, Raphael, Pablo Picasso, Giovanni Battista Piranesi, and Andrea del Sarto.
