A.I. Brings John Singer Sargent’s Painting “La Carmencita Dancing” to Life

We can only imagine what it must have been like to experience the many sights, sounds, and colors that inspired John Singer Sargent’s legendary art. But now, with the help of artificial intelligence, those sensations come to life. Using A.I. technology, you can experience the wonder of Sargent’s encounters with Carmen Dauset Moreno (aka La Carmencita). When Sargent saw La Carmencita for the first time, he was captivated. The artist was struck by her confidence and the vibrancy of her wardrobe. He was so inspired that he asked the famous flamenco dancer to pose for a painting in his studio. And thus, La Carmencita was forever immortalized in paint. The exhibition Sargent and Spain was on view in our West Building from October 2, 2022, to January 2, 2023.
