A.I. Brings John Singer Sargent’s Painting “The Spanish Dance” to Life

We can only imagine what it must have been like to experience the many sights, sounds, and colors that inspired John Singer Sargent’s legendary art. But now, with the help of machine learning, those sensations come to life. Using A.I. technology, you can experience Sargent’s enigmatic vision of a pair of dancers performing outdoors, their movements lit by stars or fireworks. Sargent attempted to convey what he, as an outsider, viewed as essential Spain: its mystery, tradition, and spirit. The exhibition Sargent and Spain was on view in our West Building from October 2, 2022, through January 2, 2023.
