A global phenomenon, the New Woman was a symbol of female empowerment based on real women making revolutionary changes in life and art. Meet eight pioneering women photographers, including Dorothea Lange, Tsuneko Sasamoto, and Homai Vyarawalla, who made significant contributions to modern photography. The New Woman Behind the Camera was on view at the National Gallery of Art from October 31, 2021, to January 30, 2022.
