Oliver Lee Jackson: There Is No Story

Oliver Lee Jackson (b. 1935) creates abstract art that is rooted in the human figure. Interviewed in his Oakland, California, studio in December 2018, Jackson speaks on a range of subjects, including his working process, materials, and inspirations. Music by jazz great Julius Hemphill recalls Jackson’s past collaboration with Hemphill and suggests connections to Jackson’s energetic yet lyrical art. Produced by the Department of Exhibition Programs, National Gallery of Art, Washington, in conjunction with the exhibition Oliver Lee Jackson: Recent Paintings.
