William Anastasi's Gallery Destruction Creates a Masterpiece

In this video, artist William Anastasi creates a masterpiece by displacing bits of plaster into a pile. By manipulating plaster and bits of metal, he creates an intricate and mesmerizing sculpture. Gouging the wall with sharp instruments, Anastasi creates his sculpture by displacing bits of plaster into a pile. The plaster “issued” from the excavated wall sits at its base. Converting the gallery wall into the medium for his art, Anastasi literally embeds his work in the exhibition. By emphasizing the gallery as a physical space rather than as a neutral backdrop for art, Issue is inextricably bound to its setting.
