Woman in White Exhibition Trailer

Joanna Hiffernan was a muse and inspiration for James McNeill Whistler in a personal and professional relationship that lasted more than two decades, but who was she? This woman in white has inspired artists from the Victorian era to today, but little has been shared about Hiffernan herself—until now. This show features Hiffernan’s powerful influence over numerous works by Whistler and others, including Whistler’s three famous Symphony in White paintings, which are being shown together for the first time in the United States. The Woman in White: Joanna Hiffernan and James McNeill Whistler was on view from July 3 to October 10, 2022.
