[1] Provenance from Art of the Renaissance bronze, 1500-1650 (see bibliography). Von Frey likely refers to Alexander von Frey [1882-1951], an art dealer active in Swizterland and Paris before moving to New York in.1948. He had a collection of small European Renaissance bronzes that was sold at Sotheby's London on 8 December 1988 (this work was not included in the sale). According to the catalogue, his collection was mostly complete by 1929.
