The image is a portrait of a man's head and upper shoulders in a monochromatic style. His round face has shadows around his eyes, which are looking straight ahead. He has thick, slightly wavy hair styled away from his face and a well-groomed mustache. The background is plain and dark, contrasting with the lighter tones of the man's face. The artist's signature and the date, 1896, are found in the lower left corner.
