The lower half of the image depicts several people, mostly visible from the chest upward, with some fully visible, from the back or side, in a standing position. Their facial features are delicately drawn, showing various expressions. The individuals have a range of hairstyles, from long to short, and most appear to be wearing draped garments reminiscent of classical robes. Surrounding the group is an ornate architectural frame. The background above the gathering is minimal. At the bottom of the artwork, a caption or dedication reads "1866: IN MEMORIAM: 1896 CHARLES E. DUNLAP BLESSED ARE THE PURE IN HEART."
