This is a drawing of a man writing at a table within a grand architectural setting. The scene captures the interior of a vaulted passageway framed by columns and arches which leads to a distant landscape visible through an open archway. The man has a long beard and is writing or drawing on a tablet at a desk with writing instruments and a scroll. A hat hangs on the wall behind him and a lion rests on the floor nearby. Two birds perch on a ledge above. The detailed line work and shading contribute to the image's intricacy and depth.
