Sold by the artist to (C. W. Kraushaar Art Galleries, New York); purchased 12 June 1924 by Chester Dale [1883-1962], New York;[1] bequest 1963 to NGA.
[1] Photocopy of sales records in the NGA curatorial files (original in the Chester Dale papers at the Archives of American Art, Washington, D.C.). Dale discussed the purchase of this painting in his unpublished autobiography, 1959 revised typescript of 1953 manuscript, Chester Dale papers, Box 1 of 15, Archives of American Art.
