Artist, Spanish, 1870 - 1945

Closely clustered buildings with warm white or golden-yellow walls and terracotta-brown and red roofs nestle in a valley between emerald-green hills in this square landscape painting. A band of grass stretches across the bottom edge of the canvas so we look over the valley and down onto the roofs. The buildings are outlined in royal blue or ivory white, and the sky above is skimmed with white over a darker blue background. The scene appears to be thinly painted or scrubbed so layers show through in many areas.
