The image shows a river or canal scene in a monochromatic color palette created using an etching or similar technique. The scene is viewed from a slightly elevated point, looking along the waterway towards the horizon in the upper third of the image. On the horizon, there are silhouettes of industrial buildings and cranes. The lines in the image are sketchy and energetic, adding texture to the composition. A large wooden mooring post is on the right side with a small boat tied beside it. Various boats are seen on the water. The sky has swirling, cloud-like patterns made with scratchy lines, adding drama to the landscape.
