Ray Bremser master poet returned to New York after 8 years' absence, wrinkle-faced as before, to attend my "Rainbow Body Reading Series" at Brooklyn College & same night read at St. Mark's Church Poetry Project. Next evening we did two Poetry reading shows together for jazz club-- Village Vanguard anniversary week celebrations. He left early next morning by bus, for safety from drink, to his upstate New York Utica apartment. Saw him this way the night before all the poetry scenes, at my home, February 21, 1995.

Patti Smith, poet, 70's cult pop singer, devotee of Rimbaud & Wm. Burroughs, retired 14 years from stage to raise children, her husband passed away. We did Buddhist Jewel Heart Center benefit in 4,000 seat Hill Auditorium, Ann Arbor U. of Michigan, she came out of retirement; next day signed new volume Early Work 1970-1979 in bookstore, then we suppered at Gelek Rinpoche's house, February 17, 1995.

Gelek Rimpoche, Tibetan Vajrayana teacher, visited to say Goodbye at his student Yael Crawford's house, Cleveland, Ohio, I'd stayed over with Philip Glass for Jewel Heart Meditation Center benefit. A Friend gave me this cloth-sewn Uncle Sam hat, too small for Rimpoche's dome. He'd just gotten U.S.A. citizenship & passport. Dalai Lama enshrined over mantel. March 20, 1995.

'93, Poet, art curator & essayist, guitar-singer Indie-Rock group "Pen Pal", co-editor Soft Skull Press, Great friend & scholar, fresh from 24th birthday head-shave: when you look at it closer it doesn't look menacing," he said first seeing this portrait. After graduation he stayed six months in little guest-room open-doored behind him. March 13, 1995.

I’d asked Robert Frank if he’d make back-jacket photo for Cosmopolitan Greetings: Poems 1986-'92, we crossed Avenue from his old brick house on Bleeker to leafy empty lot stormfenced near CBGB’s Bowery grunge-rock mecca, he snapped lively Portrait, my Leica M6 strapped on Bike carry-rack, we changed places, I saw his familiar face, September 5, 1993.

Tokdhan Rimpoche from Eastern Tibet had given oral Transmission of whole Kanjur "Three Baskets" collection, original Buddhist texts, twice or thrice in India.. For Gelek Rimpoche's annual summer retreat for a hundred or so of us students, he visited to transmit Prajnaparamita Sutra, Chanting one-volume short version for several days in succession: "Gate gate paragate parasamgate bodhi svaha!" Highest Perfect Wisdom Sutra: "All Gone All Gone All overgone all Gone stay-high Now Old Mind so ah~" we'd rowed across nearby lake to swim, he sat and watched, Yankee Springs State Park, Michigan, August 27, 1993

Midsummer leafage on Ailanthus Trees & backyard bushes in slight breeze, looks like 68°, guests had brought sunflowers the night before, gay club news on windowsill, I’d looked out my kitchen window with camera weekly almost a decade now, the garden courtyard cleaned and swept neat, East 12th street lower East Side Manhattan June 6, 1993.
