Artist, Italian, 1723 - 1783

The image shows a woman and a child seated in a rustic setting. The woman is seated on a large stone block, facing the viewer, with her head slightly tilted to her right. She has a weary expression on her face and long hair covered by fabric wrapped around her head. Her clothing appears to be loose, flowing garments, possibly a robe or dress, which is layered and draped. Next to her, a young child stands leaning against the wall, using their sleeve to rub their nose or face. The child has short hair and wears simple clothing. In the foreground surrounding them, several sheep are scattered, some lying down, others standing. On the right side, there is a large basket containing more wool or sheep. The background consists of a rough stone wall and possibly a thatched roof above.
