The image shows a river scene from a slightly elevated point of view. The horizon is positioned about a third of the way down from the top of the image, with a thin line of trees and some flat landscape visible in the distance. Several boats are on the river, with one larger vessel closer to the center-right, moving away from us, and other smaller boats more to the left. Smoke rises gently from some of these boats, dissipating into the overcast sky. The photograph has a monochromatic palette, rendered in sepia tones. The overall atmosphere is tranquil, with the river occupying most of the frame and reflecting the soft light conditions.
