REMADE YESTERDAYS WORK

IT WAS GOOD TO DO SO. EVEN THOUGH I KNEW WHAT TO EXPECT THE CHANGES WERE SO VARIED, FAST AND FLEETING THAT I WAS STILL TAKEN BY SURPRISE AND MISSED ONE OR TWO INTERESTING MOMENTS. I HAD THOUGHT THAT WAITING SEVERAL HOURS WATCHING THE SUN PASS OVER A WORK FOR THE SECOND TIME MIGHT BE TEDIOUS (PART OF ME WANTED TO BE MAKING A DIFFERENT WORK ALTOGETHER) BUT FOUND IT EVEN MORE INTERESTING THAN THE FIRST ATTEMPT. I LEARNT SO MUCH ABOUT THE RED AS IT REACTED TO THE LIGHT. THE TENSION AS THE TIP BECAME ILLUMINATED WAS PALPABLE. THERE WAS ONLY ONE SHORT MOMENT OR TWO WHEN THE STONE WAS, MORE OR LESS, COMPLETELY IN SUNLIGHT. FOR THE REST OF THE TIME IT WAS PART IN AND OUT OF SHADOW - WHICH GAVE THE RED AN EXTRAORDINARY VIVIDNESS.

I PARTICULARLY LIKED THE MOMENT WHEN JUST THE TIP WAS CAUGHT IN THE LIGHT - SURROUNDED BY DARK SHADOWS.

THE COLOUR DRAINED AWAY AS THE SUN WENT DOWN AND NO LONGER REACHED INTO THE PLACE WHERE I WORKED. STRANGELY THE RED WAS STRONGER WHEN THE ROCK WAS IN SHADOW AT THE START OF THE DAY THAN THE SHADOW AT THE END - PERHAPS IT WAS BECAUSE AT THE DAYS END I WAS COMPARING IT TO BEING IN SUNLIGHT. THERE SEEMED, HOWEVER, WARMTH IN THE LIGHT THAT BROUGHT OUT THE RED, EARLIER ON THAT WAS ABSENT LATER WHEN THE LIGHT APPEARED MUCH COOLER.

TODAY HAS BEEN A GREAT LESSON IN TIME, COLOUR AND LIGHT.

IT WAS NOT A LARGE WORK BUT IT TOOK A FEW HOURS TO MAKE. THERE WAS SO LITTLE RED - COLLECTING TOOK A LONG TIME. NONE OF THE LEAVES WERE COMPLETELY RED AND HAD BLEMISHES THAT I HAD TO TEAR OUT. THIS WAS A TIME CONSUMING PROCESS WHICH RESULTED IN SMALL PIECES OF LEAVES WHICH IN TURN TOOK MORE TIME TO COVER THE AREA I NEEDED.

I KEPT WETTING DOWN THE LEAVES SO THAT THEY WOULD KEEP THEIR COLOUR OVER THE TIME IT WOULD TAKE FOR THE SUN TO PASS OVER.

ALTHOUGH THE RED WAS DIFFICULT TO DRAW OUT OF THE PLACE - ONCE GATHERED AND CONCENTRATED IT HAD AN INTENSITY THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN LESS HAD THE SURROUNDING TREES ALSO BEEN RED. THE RED WAS A SHOCK - AND WAS WHY THE PERSON WHO PASSED BY THE OTHER DAY SAID IT LOOKED LIKE BLOOD.
