Artist, American, 1906 - 1978

The image shows a woodland scene with a slightly elevated perspective. The horizon is obscured by dense trees layering towards the distance. The precise and detailed brushstrokes or etching technique captures the texture of bark, foliage, and light and shadow. The color palette is monochromatic using a range of grays. Close to us, the ground has stumps and low vegetation leading towards a deer among the trees. In the background, tall trees create an intricate pattern against the light filtering through the canopy.
