The image shows Borthwick Castle from an elevated perspective. The castle stands in the middle distance, surrounded by trees. The stone structure has towers and fortified walls. The scene is detailed with fine line work, resembling an etching. A monochromatic color palette of brown tones creates a vintage look. In the foreground, small buildings and trees suggest a village. The terrain slopes upward to the castle. Figures near the castle provide scale. The sky has sparse cloud details.
