Saint Anthony with the Christ Child

1641

Italian 17th Century(?)

Associated Names
The image shows a child and an adult. The child is being cradled in the arms of the adult, positioned slightly elevated to be at the level of the adult's face. The child's face, seen in profile, features curly hair and a rounded facial structure, with the child leaning forward to touch their nose to the adult's. The adult is shown from the waist up, wearing a simple, voluminous garment that drapes over the shoulders, presumably a robe. The adult's hair is short and closely cropped. No jewelry or objects are visible in their hands. Near the top left of the small inset image, a stylized plant with a prominent flower is depicted. The background of the inset is minimally detailed, with subtle shading indicating texture. This inset is centered within a large blank space, emphasizing the central figures.
