The image features a man shown from the waist up, seated in a relaxed position. His head is slightly turned to the left side of the frame, with his gaze directed into the distance. He has a thick, curly beard and mustache, with curly hair peeking out from beneath his hat. The man is wearing a brimmed hat and is clad in a suit coat over a collared shirt, which appears to be fastened by a bow tie. He holds a set of brushes in one hand along with what seems to be a canvas or sketchpad. The background depicts a serene, slightly blurred seascape with a wooden fence running horizontally along the coast. The image is rendered in monochromatic tones.
