The image is seen from a high angle, showing a scene with people and ships on a beach, with the sea in the distance. The horizon is about two-thirds up the image, lined with sailing ships. The central area is framed with ornamental scrollwork, resembling decorative fabric drapes. The style is like an etching or engraving with precise lines and crosshatching for texture. The color palette is black and white. Close to us, inside the frame, figures are engaged in activities, with groups near the shore and boats docking. The scene extends further to show more people and structures, forming a busy tableau that progresses to the horizon.
