Painter, American, 1813 - 1843

The image shows a portrait of a seated woman. She is sitting upright with her arms relaxed, holding a small red book. Her facial features are detailed, with a fair complexion, high cheekbones, and a slightly serious expression. Her dark hair is styled in an elaborate updo with a floral embellishment. The woman wears a formal, high-necked brown dress with voluminous sleeves, and a transparent lace-like cape draped over her shoulders. She has a long, black beaded necklace layered with a shorter one. The background is a muted, earthy tone with texture.
