Provenance

Recorded as from New York State.[1] (Harry Stone, New York, by 1942),[2] by whom sold in 1946 to Edgar William and Bernice Chrysler Garbisch; gift to NGA, 1953.
[1] The caption published in a special issue of Art Lover 1 (November/December 1945), no. 6, indicates that the painting was found in upper New York State. This issue served as a catalogue for the exhibition, "Harry Stone Collection of American Primitive Paintings," New Art Circle, J.B. Neumann Gallery, New York, 1945. [2] In which year the work was included in an exhibition (title unknown) at Stone's gallery in New York.
