Artist, French, 1592 - 1635

The image shows a bearded older man standing in a frontal position, slightly turned to his right, with his head facing upward. He has a long flowing beard and an expression suggesting contemplation or prayer. There is an aureole around his head. His hair is long and wavy, flowing down from the top of his head. He is dressed in a long robe with a cloak draped over it, which falls in folds to his feet, partially covering his bare toes. In his right hand, he holds a large key, while his left hand is placed on his chest. The background includes detailed scenes with various figures, structures, people, and a group involved in a mechanical contraption to the right, as well as buildings and trees, giving an urban setting to the environment.
