Artwork history & notes

Provenance

Recorded as from western Connecticut.[1] (Avis and Rockwell Gardiner, Stamford, Connecticut), by whom sold in 1955 to Edgar William and Bernice Chrysler Garbisch; gift to NGA, 1978.
[1] The donor's records state that the painting was found in "Western, Connecticut," but no such town exists. Since Stamford is in western Connecticut, this portion of the state was probably intended.
