Artist, Scottish, 1865 - 1945

The image depicts a view through a large archway or gate towards a distant street. The horizon is high, just below the roofline of the closest structure, with a slender tower visible through the archway. The scene is rendered with detailed linear strokes typical of etching. The color palette is monochrome with strong light and shadow contrasts. Two figures stand close to us, while more figures are walking along the street under the arch. The architecture has sharp angles and historic elements.
