The image is captured from a slightly elevated point of view, showing a stormy sea scene. The horizon is above the center, separating the turbulent sky from the rough ocean. There is no object on the horizon. The artwork features intricate linework typical of etching with cross-hatched patterns providing texture. The color palette is monochromatic, with black ink on a pale background. The waves closest to us are churning violently, while ships struggle. Other vessels are visible in the distance amidst swirling clouds and agitated seas.
