The image shows an older woman depicted from the waist up, seated in an upright position. Her facial features include fair complexion, prominent cheekbones, and blue eyes, with dark hair mostly hidden under a white bonnet with a frilled edge. She wears a dark-colored dress with full sleeves and a white detachable collar tied at the front with a blue ribbon. The woman holds a small book with her left hand resting on the armrest of the chair and the right hand gripping the book. The background includes a plain brownish wall.
