Artist, German, 1852 - 1938

The image depicts the back view of a sitting woman from the waist up. Her head is slightly bent forward, facing away from the viewer. The visible portion of her face shows a partial profile, with her hair styled in a neat bun at the nape of her neck. She is wearing a long, dark-colored garment with voluminous sleeves gathered at the shoulders, and the material falls in pleated folds to form a full skirt. In her right hand, she appears to be holding a piece of light-colored fabric. The background is a plain, neutral-toned surface that highlights the sketch's details. Sketch lines are visible throughout the image.
