Etchings and Mezzotints from Turner's Liber Studiorum

The image displays a landscape scene seen from an elevated point. The horizon stretches across the center of the composition with distant landforms meeting a calm expanse of water or sky. The brushstrokes exhibit a detailed and meticulous technique, conveying textures of trees and foliage. The color palette is a warm sepia tone. Closest to us, a figure is seated on the ground surrounded by trees and shrubs. Remnants of structures can be seen to the right, partially hidden among trees.
Joseph Mallord William Turner, Junction of Severn and Wye, published 1811, etching, mezzotint, and aquatint, Gift of Miss Ellen T. Bullard, 1941.4.15
