Old Master Drawings from Christ Church, Oxford

Details

Overview: 118 old master drawings were selected by James Byam Shaw, lecturer at Christ Church. He catalogued the collection of more than 2,000 drawings left to Christ Church in 1765, largely through the bequest of General John Guise. In the exhibition were 89 drawings of the Italian School, including works by Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Andrea del Verrocchio as well as works by Albrecht Dürer, Rembrandt van Rijn, Peter Paul Rubens, Hans Holbein, Claude Lorrain, and Nicolas Poussin.
Organization: David E. Rust was the curator in charge of the exhibition, one in the continuing series of old master drawings exhibitions developed by Annemarie Pope for the International Exhibitions Foundation.
Sponsor: The International Exhibitions Foundation received a grant of $10,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts toward expenses.
