Overview: 73 paintings, 143 drawings, and 8 etchings commemorated the 300th anniversary of the birth of Antoine Watteau. 41 of the paintings including Gilles,The Embarkation for Cythera, and Gersaint's Shopsign were shown in the United States for the first time.

Organization: Pierre Rosenberg, chief curator at the Musée du Louvre, selected the paintings. Margaret Morgan Grasselli was coordinator at the National Gallery and was in charge of the graphics. Gaillard Ravenel and Mark Leithauser designed the exhibition and Gordon Anson designed the lighting for the National Gallery. Versions of the exhibition were shown in Paris and Berlin.
