This painting shows a woman with her face turned to the left and her back to us, holding a piece of white fabric in her left hand. She has pale yellow skin and dark brown hair tied up into a loose bun or knot at the back of her head. Her face is blurred, with no features beyond the vague outline of a nose and a few dots of paint suggesting an eye. She is wearing a long, dark blue long garment that she appears to be putting on or taking off, with her right hand raised up to her shoulder. Behind her is a low brown table or countertop, and the background is painted in muted mustard and beige tones. The brushstrokes are thick and visible on top of a textured surface.

This painting shows a landscape with green fields extending into the distance on the left and rows of trees on the right, some with white blossoms and others with green and orange leaves. Closer to us, in the bottom right corner, there is a green table set with simple items, including a blue bowl or cup and a yellow rectangle that could be a book. The table stands on the light brown dirt, near a long path that leads through the rows of trees. At the top of the painting, a thin strip of light blue sky is visible. The painting has loose, expressive brushstrokes, especially in the foliage and sky.

In the center of this painting is a blue vase filled with a variety of flowers in different sizes and colors. The flowers are in shades of orange, pink, yellow, and blue, with green leaves surrounding the blossoms. Some of the flowers are large and round, while others are smaller and shaped like trumpets or teardrops. At the center of the blue vase is a section of pink with some red lines. A few blue petals fall from the flowers into the air. The background behind the vase is mostly gray, although it contains mottled patches of pink, yellow, teal, and light green.

This painting shows the upper half of a woman's body, focusing on her face, head, and large hat. The woman's body is slightly turned toward the right, but she is looking directly at us. She has fair skin with areas of light pink on her cheeks and forehead, and her facial features are soft, including brown eyes, a small mouth, and dark, curly hair put up under a wide-brimmed hat. The hat has vibrant, abstract patterns in teal, tan, and black. The woman is wearing a dark-colored garment with a high collar. The background is made of light gray and white lines of paint. The brushstrokes in the painting are thick and visible, and in some areas, like the woman's hat and face as well as the background, the light brown color of the surface beneath the paint is visible.

Madame Bonnard

Edouard Vuillard

The head of a pale-skinned man nearly fills this shadowy, vertical portrait painting. His shoulders angle to our right, and his dark eyes cut back to look at us. Light from the top left corner highlights his light blond hair, and he has a full beard. He has a straight nose, and his high cheekbones and eye sockets are cast in deep shadow. A high white collar peeks over the lapels of a slate-blue jacket. The background is thinly painted, appearing almost scratched on in some areas, with black against a lighter ground. The brushstrokes are loose and visible throughout the painting. The artist signed the work in the lower right corner in rust-red paint, "E. Vuillard."

This painting shows a woman sitting in a chair with her legs covered by her dress. She faces slightly left of us, looking down at something in her hands that could be a light gray sheet of paper. She has pale skin and long, dark, straight hair, and she is wearing a long, dark blue dress. A teacup and teapot are on the table beside her, in the bottom right corner of the painting. She appears to sit in a wooden chair with a cloth or blanket on the back, but the details are hard to determine. The background is textured beige with some spots of light orange. The brushstrokes in the painting are thick and textured, with the paint applied in short strokes or dots. In some places, the beige color of the canvas is visible.

We face a wall lined with furniture to either side of a tall window that looks out onto buildings in this almost square painting. The scene is painted with blended and broad strokes, which makes our view a little blurry so many details are indistinct. The walls are tan with a thin, dark blue line above a wide band of lighter blue along the bottom of the wall. The window is in the center of the wall opposite us. A teal-blue curtain hangs along its right, and sheer, artic-blue drapes are parted and fastened to the wall on each side. The view out the window shows a few brightly lit, pale blue and yellow buildings with gray roofs. Under the window, a light wood table is scattered with objects, difficult to identify, and one pale turquoise square that could be a painting. More objects are cluttered on the dark wood bureau to our left and a round table closer to us, which is cut off by the bottom edge of the canvas. A delicate straw-colored easel holding a small canvas stands just beyond the round table. A girl sits in the lower right corner of the composition, and she is cropped by the right and bottom edges. Her skin is pale and tinged with smoky blue. She wears a wreath in her hair, presumably of flowers, and her long dress and the bed or chair on which she sits blend together in tones of navy, spruce blue, and forest green. The artist signed and dated the lower left, “1900 Bonnard.”

This painting features a combination of angular and curved shapes that come together to form an abstract still life. In the center, there are forms resembling a plate of purple plums and smaller green grapes alongside a guitar-like shape to the right. Above the instrument is what looks like a wine glass with a bright yellow line curving from the top. Bold colors such as red, black, purple and golden yellow, as well as muted beige and gray tones, highlight the different shapes and the background. The elements are fragmented and assembled in a cubist style, with some lines and shapes overlapping.

This painting shows a bustling scene from a slightly elevated point of view. At the center is a line of tall, slender trees, with a blue body of water behind them and a gray-and-green forest on the opposite shore below a blue-gray sky. Closer to us, in front of the trees, people seem to be walking along a wide gray path that runs parallel to the water. One child near the center seems to be rolling a yellow hoop, and near the bottom left corner are two shapes that look like dogs. The brushstrokes in the painting are loose, and the bodies of the people and dogs are suggested by minimal strokes of brown, tan, red, black, and white, so that no fine details are visible. The overall color palette is earthy, with greens, browns, and grays dominating, accented by pops of red and black from the clothing of the people.
