Onward! Highlights from the Flaherty Film Seminar

Founded 70 years ago, the Flaherty Film Seminar brings together an international and intergenerational community each year to explore the transformative, world-building power of nonfiction cinema, the exchange of cinematic ideas across cultures, and the expansion of the limits of cinema itself.
This series highlights selections from past seminars as well as this year’s anniversary seminar held in New York City. Although guest programmers differ for each iteration of the Flaherty, part of what makes the seminar experience so unique and unpredictable is that the program of films selected are never announced ahead of time. With this series, the films featured are examples of highlights from past guest programmers.
With thanks to Samara Chadwick, Juan Pedro Agurcia, the board and staff of The Flaherty, as well as all the programmers, artists, distributors and archives involved.
