Artist, Scottish, 1865 - 1945

The image shows a river scene with a large stone bridge, under which the viewpoint is. The bridge creates a horizontal line across the composition. Figures and vehicles are visible on the bridge, indicating activity. In the distance, there are architectural structures against a hazy sky with outlines of spires and smoke chimneys. The brushstrokes are meticulous, using fine lines and cross-hatching to create depth and texture. The color palette is monochromatic, primarily sepia and black. Small boats with figures are depicted navigating the waters.
