Overview: 137 paintings, drawings, watercolors, and sculptures by 20th-century European and American artists covered nearly every movement from cubism to pattern painting. The collection was assembled by Chicago businessman Morton Neumann after his first trip to Europe in 1948.

Organization: Curators were E.A. Carmean Jr. with Eliza Rathbone and Trinkett Clark. Carmean, Gaillard Ravenel, and Mark Leithauser selected and designed the exhibition, and Gordon Anson designed the lighting.
