Details

Overview: 31 American paintings from the past 50 years, including works by Sam Gilliam, Lee Krasner, Georgia O'Keeffe, and others, were shown in this exhibition selected from the collection of the National Gallery of Art. Recent gifts and Collectors Committee purchases, including Alex Katz's Swamp Maple (4:30), Lee Bontecou's Untitled, and Cy Twombly's Untitled (Bolsena), also were on view. The exhibition was conceived as a counterpoint to The Robert and Jane Meyerhoff Collection: Selected Works, and included paintings by artists who had not been included in the earlier show in the same galleries.
Organization: The exhibition was organized by the National Gallery of Art. Harry Cooper, curator of modern and contemporary art, was curator.
