Overview: The exhibition celebrated the centenary of the birth of Brassaï (born Gyula Halász on 9 September 1899, in Brassó, Transylvania) with a showing of 125 of his photographs. Included were views of Paris at night taken in the late 1920s and early 1930s, studies of high society, children's graffiti made after World War II, and portraits of friends and colleagues.

Organization: The exhibition was organized by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, with funding provided by The Brown Foundation, Inc., Houston Endowment Inc., and The Wortham Foundation. Sarah Greenough, curator of photographs, National Gallery of Art, was the curator for the exhibition in Washington.
