Overview: The exhibition of drawings and watercolors was shown in 2 parts with separate catalogues: 100 works came from British collections and 100 from the collection of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mellon. The works from British collections, representing the century from 1750 to 1850, were selected by Jonathan Mayne, keeper at the Victoria and Albert Museum, and John Woodward, keeper at the Birmingham Museum. Sponsored by the English-Speaking Unions of the United States and the British Commonwealth, this first part of the exhibition went on to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The other half of the exhibition was seen only in Washington.
