Overview: This exhibition of Francisco de Goya's work was the first of its kind to be seen in the United States. The Prado Museum and the Lazaro Galdiano Museum in Madrid lent 129 drawings and prints for the traveling exhibition, which was organized by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service. The exhibition was identical to one held in London during the summer of 1954 by the Arts Council of Great Britain, with the exception of 33 etchings from the Rosenwald collection to replace prints seen in London that could not be obtained for the traveling exhibition. Introduction and catalogue notes were reprinted from the Arts Council catalogue. The exhibition was installed at the Gallery by Elizabeth Mongan.
