Lewis Baltz: Prototypes/Ronde de Nuit

Overview: 83 photographs from the series Prototypes by Californian artist Lewis Baltz were shown together for the first time in this exhibition, which also included Ronde de Nuit (Night Watch), a mural-sized, 12-panel color work on loan from the Art Institute of Chicago. 2 prints by Richard Serra and sculptures by Donald Judd and Sol LeWitt, artists Baltz admired, also were included. The exhibition was drawn from the collection of the National Gallery of Art with loans from public and private collections in the United States.

Britt Salvesen, curator and head, Wallis Annenberg Photography Department and prints and drawings department, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, presented the lecture "Decoding Baltz's Prototypes" on June 5.

Organization: The exhibition was organized by The Art Institute of Chicago. Matthew S. Witkovsky, curator and chair, department of photography, Art Institute of Chicago, was the curator. Sarah Greenough, senior curator and head of the department of photographs, National Gallery of Art, was coordinator in Washington.
