Overview: The exhibition featured 34 paintings by Edouard Manet, Claude Monet, and Gustave Caillebotte depicting the Gare Saint-Lazare in Paris and the nearby district of the city in the late 19th century. The paintings were exhibited with 20 related drawings, prints, photographs, a period map of the neighborhood, and 5 books. Manet's The Railway (Gare Saint-Lazare) (1872-1873) was featured in the exhibition, which also included all of Monet's 11 paintings of the Gare Saint-Lazare, on view together for the first time.

Organization: The National Gallery of Art, Washington, and the Réunion des Musées Nationaux/Musée d'Orsay, Paris, organized the exhibition. Curators were Manet scholar Juliet Wilson- Bareau; Philip Conisbee, curator of French paintings at the National Gallery of Art; and Florence E. Coman, assistant curator of French paintings, National Gallery of Art.
