Portrait of the Artist's Mother
Details
Overview: Whistler's famous portrait of his mother was lent by the Musée du Louvre to Saint Louis for the city's 200th anniversary, and was then shown in Washington. The well-traveled picture had been in the United States many times before, most recently in Atlanta in February and March 1963 in tribute to 122 Georgians who had died in an air crash in France in June 1962 while on an art tour arranged by the Atlanta Art Association.
