Overview: 49 still life paintings illustrated William M. Harnett's trompe l'oeil technique. They were selected from the National Gallery's collection and other public and private collections.
Organization: The exhibition was organized by the Amon Carter Museum, the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Co-curators were John Wilmerding, visiting curator for American Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art; Doreen Bolger, curator, Amon Carter Museum; and Marc Simpson, curator, the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. The coordinator for the National Gallery was Nicolai Cikovsky Jr., curator of American and British paintings.
