Summer Institute for Educators

The Power of Art: Pathways to Critical Thinking and Social-Emotional Learning

How might works of art spark engagement, support critical thinking, and foster social-emotional wellness in both students and educators?

The 2023 Summer Institute invites education professionals of all grade levels and subjects to learn from and connect with thought leaders and practitioners around the power of teaching with art.

During the Institute, July 11–14, participants will come together at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, to hear from thought leaders, explore art in the galleries, experience hands-on teaching-artist workshops, and discuss ideas in learning groups.

Teacher Workshops

Workshops are designed to help teachers find meaning and pleasure in the visual arts. These programs introduce art in the National Gallery's collection and in special exhibitions, explore interdisciplinary curriculum connections, and model methods for teaching with art. All programs include teaching resource materials.

Questions about our programs should be directed to [email protected].

When contacting the National Gallery, please provide a telephone number and the times of day when you can best be reached.
