Virtual School Tours

Requests for winter/spring tours are no longer been accepted.

Requests for fall virtual tours (October 4 – December 4) will be accepted from August 2 – November 5, 2021.

Our school tours are going virtual! Whether from home or the classroom, your students will participate in engaging and interactive live school tours in a virtual learning space. The tours provide the opportunity to explore and compare a diverse array of works of art from our collection. Students will have time to look carefully, ask questions, and develop their own interpretations. Creative writing, sketching, and perspective-taking will help students cultivate personal connections to art. They will be encouraged to think critically about a work's multiple points of view. Students will experience a powerful shared learning community where all voices are valued.

We offer thematic tours for pre-K through 12th grade, but we can also customize a tour that meets your specific needs. For all tours, we provide flexible options in tour length, time of day, and group size.

Special Request Tours

We are happy to work with you to customize a tour that meets the needs of your class or to create a tour that connects closely to your curriculum.

Tours must be scheduled at least four weeks in advance. Groups must contain at least 15 students.

Once your tour has been scheduled, you will receive an email confirmation in 10 business days.

To cancel or change a tour, please call (202) 842-6249 as soon as possible. Tour slots are limited, so if you need to cancel your tour please let us know so we can make the tour slot available to other groups.

Funding for the cost of bus transportation is available for Title I schools that participate in our docent-led school tours. For more information, please contact Deirdre Palmer at
[email protected] or (202) 842-6880, or use the application form.

Watch a video (grades 1-4) or download a presentation (grades 4-12) (PPT, 4MB) to show your students what to expect on their tour. Please review museum policies, location, parking, accessibility, security, lunch options, and other important visitor information.

Teachers are welcome to guide their students through the museum independently. Please complete the self-guided group form at least four weeks prior to your visit. You will receive a poster for your classroom before your visit.

Our tour scheduler is available to answer questions on Monday through Wednesday between 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. (September through May). Please contact her at (202) 842-6249 [email protected].
